I went to the school from 1963 until 1969 when I was transferred to Gleadless Valley Secondary Modern School which was also on Mathews Lane.

I loved my time at Oakes Park and remember many of the teachers, Mrs. Huber, Mrs Renshaw, Mr. Boomer, the head mistress was Miss Cammack. I really didn’t want to leave but it was thought I would have a better chance of education. I did ok, getting 6 CSE’s and going on to Richmond College getting a Diploma in Secretarial Studies. After having about 4 different secretarial jobs I eventually ended up working in the NHS as a Team Administrator for a team of Psychologists dealing with dementia in over 65’s.

Have many happy memories of Oakes Park and thank them for the chance I got to spread my wings..
