A review of Wincobank Nursery Infant School by Maureen Howes written on Monday 15th of April 2013

I want to contact the present day Head of Wincobank School where I spent my school days if possible. At 74 I am about to become a published author which is quite a hoot! The subject of the book is Emily Wilding Davison the Suffragette who died from her injuries from her Epsom Protest in 1913. She is buried in the churchyard near my home in Northumberland. I have such fond memories of friends and teachers and neighbours in Wincobank. I suppose our teaching was basic due to the restraints of the war years I remember walking in line with the infant classes when we were shown where we sit wearing our gas masks if the sirens went off in the school shelter. Maureen Howes nee Stainrod.
